Today, we honor all of the Veterans who graciously served our country. We also want to recognize the Veterans who work for us here at Tecumseh Public Schools. Thank you for your service. Veterans Day honors the men and women from all branches of the military who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Originally called Armistice Day, November 11th marks the end of World War I, which occurred on November 11, 1918 at 11:00 a.m. In 1954, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to pay tribute to the veterans of all wars. It is celebrated every November 11th, and has been a Federal holiday since 1926.

Ceramics students have fired up the raku kiln again and made more ceramic artwork. The pieces come out of the kiln red hot and then placed in a trash can filled with wood chips and paper. A fiery reduction process is created by plunging the pieces into the trash can. The artwork cools off for about 20 minutes in the trash cans. The firing process produces unpredictable and unique glaze results in the finished work. The pieces are pre-glazed before being heated up. The skull ceramic pieces are made out of clay and designed by the students. This was a Halloween project and the pieces were inspired by Day of the Dead.

Students at Tecumseh High School are learning about Horsehair pottery in their Ceramics class. Students use hairs from horses, feathers and sugar to create their designs on the pieces of clay pottery, which they also made. The hairs and combustibles are laid upon glowing surfaces of pots or pieces straight from the raku klin. They immediately sear onto clay leaving localized carbon markings. This is a unique tradition of Navajo artisans. This ancient Navajo art form originally was used to celebrate the birth of a great horse.

Lately, our middle school students have been learning how to play tennis. There are so many great reasons for kids to get involved in tennis that it is definitely worth teaching in PE at any grade level. Some of the numerous benefits of learning tennis are: • Tennis is fun, especially when kids are successful • Tennis is a great lifetime sport with lots of programs for all ages • Tennis is an aerobic sport, which promotes overall health and wellness • Tennis demands a lot of focus and concentration

We'd like to give a BIG thanks to the Raisin Township Fire Department! Recently, the fire department visited the Tecumseh Preschool at Sutton Early Learning Center. The firefighters took the time out of their day to teach our students about fire safety. They even get dressed in all of their gear to show our students what it takes to prepare to fight a fire. Oh, and of course the students were able to hop in the fire trucks. To Raisin Twp. Fire Department, thank you for all that you do!

The preschool students from Sutton Early Learning Center took a field trip today and headed east to visit Forever Acres Farm. The petting zoo is located in Britton. The location also has an apple orchard! It was a little chilly but that didn't stop the kids from having a good time.

Congratulations to our Varsity Equestrian team! This past weekend, our girls were named Reserve State Champions. They were the runner-up in Division A in the state of Michigan. That’s the biggest division. It was a close battle but our girls were just barely edged out in the end. Great work by everybody!

🚨🚨 HOMECOMING PARADE UPDATE 🚨🚨 Today's outdoor pep assembly and Homecoming Parade have been cancelled. After discussing with the Student Council President, Student Council Advisor and THS/TPS Administration, the decision was made to cancel the events because of our current weather, forecast models and future radar. We believe this is the safest route for all of our students that would have taken part in today's festivities. Tonight's THS Homecoming Dance at Indian Stadium will be decided during tonight's football game. Thank you for understanding!

October 5th is World Teachers' Day. Today, we celebrate our teachers and everything they do for our students here at TPS. Considering that teachers mold future generations, taking one day every year to say "thank you" is the least we can do. No matter where you are, remember that teachers matter! The global event was launched by the United National Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization back in 1994.

This morning, Drawing class students from Tecumseh High School got out and enjoyed some of the nice weather. The artists took to the Sculpture Garden, working on 'Plein Air' projects. The artists draw 'en plein air' (in the open air), meaning outdoors, on the spot. Painting/drawing in the open air is recorded as far back as the Renaissance, but was generally done in preparation for studio painting. Today, 'en plein air' painting is what much of the public pictures when they imagine an artist at work, and is favored by many semi-professional and amateur artists.
