Late last week, 8th grade students from Tecumseh Middle School spent some time in our nation's capital. During the trip, students laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, spent time at the Gettysburg battlefield, and toured numerous historical places in Washington, D.C. Students explored some of our nation's most important historical sites while experiencing incomparable learning moments. We are thankful that our Board of Education and community members continue to support this once-in-a-lifetime experience for our students.

The K12 Art Show at Tecumseh High School is wrapping up tonight. The art is here at the high school, but our artists' work is showing up in some other places. TPS art teachers and students throughout the district created a variety of sunflower art and have teamed up with businesses in Downtown Tecumseh to display the work. This artwork is to show our support for former exchange student Valeriya Isakova and her family. Valeryia, her mother and brother escaped Ukraine at the beginning of the invasion of the country. After obtaining US visas, the trio are expected to arrive in Tecumseh this weekend! The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine. Today, the flower represents unity and hope in the face of adversity. Fantastic work by our artists, instructors, and the community that has come together to rally around Valeriya and her family. 🌻🌻🌻

History, past and present, was on display at Sutton Early Learning Center. Our students hosted a biographical famous person museum. The goal was to teach about influential people from the past and present. The second graders researched and dressed up as their famous character and gave a presentation about their history. Students were able to demonstrate their projects/presentation to the best audience of all, their families! The students worked very hard on this project, showing their dedication to the subject material by learning more about history.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT 🚨 For the rest of this week, there is an updated traffic pattern at Herrick Park Intermediate Learning Center. Right now, Consumers Energy crews are working at the corner of Outer Drive and Herrick Park Drive. They will be working on this project for the rest of the week. Outer Drive at Herrick Park Drive will be closed during this time. That means drivers who are picking up their children on Herrick Park ILC property will have to come from the east side of Outer Drive (entrance at Inner Drive and Center Drive). When leaving Herrick Park ILC, you have to turn right, which is the same way you came in. Buses will have to enter and leave the same way. Please be patient during this brief construction period. Tecumseh Police will be on hand to help with traffic. Thank you for your understanding.

Students from Tecumseh Middle School are bringing home a gift for Mother's Day! Nearly every student from TMS started to grow sunflowers for this project, and they are taking them home today. What's great about this is that the seeds for the sunflowers are coming from our garden at TMS. The garden project was started by teacher Joe Bundas. (previous story about the garden project: https://www.tps.k12.mi.us/article/554563) So, what was the total cost for this project? Just $50. Several teachers have pitched in, helping with supplies and more. The City of Tecumseh has also been kind enough to donate mulch for the garden. The garden project is self-funded and was originally designed and built by students. The garden isn't just a teaching tool for students, it's being used to help give back. The staff and students have donated food to local families over the years.
