No, it’s not Halloween yet.
However, it is Count Day across Michigan, and Count von Count is making rounds across the district. The Count is helping us keep track of attendance today!
‘One student, ah-ah-ah! Two students, ah-ah-ah! THREE students!’
Count Day is a key event for public schools that helps determine the state funding each district receives based on student attendance. The number of students present on this day directly influences the amount of per-student funding the district will get for the school year.
Every student counts today (literally), so make sure you're in class – the Count is watching!

Last week, a special guest stopped by Paul Wellman’s first and sixth-hour AP English Language and Composition classes!
To help students hone their rhetorical analysis skills, Superintendent Matt Hilton gave his first-ever presentation on the district’s Sinking Fund Millage—a critical initiative to improve school infrastructure—before the first informational meeting.
Students actively analyzed Superintendent Hilton’s tone, syntax, and rhetorical strategies, making impressive observations on imagery, word choice, and even his presentation mannerisms. Their thoughtful questions and insightful reviews showed just how well they’re mastering the art of persuasion and argumentation—critical skills for the AP exam and life.
Superintendent Hilton was left impressed with Mr. Wellman’s students, praising their insightful analysis, sharp critical thinking, and ability to engage professionally with complex rhetorical concepts.

Paper littered the hallways of Tecumseh Acres Early Learning Center this morning. Paper airplanes, that is.
In Amanda Spohn’s STEM class, students participated in a fun and interactive lesson on building paper airplanes. Beyond the folding and creasing, they were introduced to scientific concepts such as aerodynamics, velocity, thrust, and speed, providing a hands-on approach to understanding the forces that influence flight.
Ms. Spohn began by demonstrating basic folding techniques, and students eagerly experimented with their designs. Each plane was unique, reflecting the creativity and curiosity of the young engineers in the making.
Once their creations were complete, the students hit the hallways to put their work to the test. Some airplanes soared up to 18 feet, filling the air with excitement and a sense of accomplishment.
STEM education is crucial for developing problem-solving skills and fostering innovation early on. Lessons like these engage students and build a foundation for critical thinking and collaboration. Tecumseh Acres ELC is helping prepare the next generation of thinkers and creators by sparking interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Good work never goes unnoticed!
The Tecumseh Middle School Builders Club has been awarded $955 from the Michigan District of Kiwanis for their outstanding “Rake a Difference” service project!
Last year, over 750 students and dozens of staff members from Tecumseh Middle School participated in this annual event, raking and bagging leaves to help local senior citizens. The project fosters a strong sense of community service and shows the incredible impact young people can have in their neighborhoods.
A big thank you to our TMS students and staff, the Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh, the TPS transportation department, and all the volunteers who helped make this project successful!

It was an incredible honor to welcome renowned composer and DJ Rodney Page to Tecumseh Middle School's PBIS assembly! Rodney kicked off the school year in style, inspiring our students with his dynamic music and heartfelt stories.
Throughout the assembly, he dove into our school-wide acronym ONE – Ownership, Never Give Up, and Empathy – showing how these values can resonate in our school community and all aspects of life. The energy in the room was electric, as our students were fully engaged and excited to learn how they could embody these important principles!
Thank you, Rodney, for sharing your talent and wisdom with us! Let’s make this year the best one yet!

It was a great ‘welcome back’ for our students and staff at Sutton Early Learning Center.
They celebrated with a PBIS Kick-Off event. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It is a proactive approach to improving school safety and promoting positive behavior.
Students would learn what is expected of them while attending school. PBIS helps create a positive school climate by setting clear expectations, teaching students how to meet them, and recognizing and rewarding positive behavior.
Overall, PBIS seeks to minimize behavioral issues, enhance the school climate, and boost academic outcomes by creating a positive and inclusive environment.

It's good to see some old and new faces at Tecumseh High School! 9th and 10th graders are stopping by to pick up their schedules and make any necessary changes.
Right now, some families are taking tours of the building and finding classrooms as students get acclimated to their new surroundings.
Yesterday, 11th and 12th graders were here at THS. If they missed out on picking up their schedule, and if 9th and 10th graders can't make it today, there will be another opportunity to pick up schedules in person.
THS is open on Thursday, August 8th, from 12 pm-4 pm and 5 pm-8 pm. If you still can't make it during those hours, schedules will likely be released in Infinite Campus this Friday.
Over Thanksgiving Break, TPS enhanced security at Tecumseh High School by replacing the original door frames and doors at both entrances. The previous frames were compromised and detached from the concrete structure, necessitating a comprehensive replacement.
Today marks the start of phase two in the security upgrade process. Michigan Glass Coatings is installing shatterproof safety films in the vestibules of both THS and Tecumseh Middle School. This film is designed to delay intruders, providing extra response time by slowing them down.
Both projects were fully funded through a Section 97 safety grant.
This strategic allocation of resources reflects a proactive approach to anticipating and addressing potential security challenges.

It's teacher knockout but with a twist!
The twist was Herrick Park Intermediate Learning Center teachers were wearing inflatable costumes to the delight of their students.
Students cheered on as teachers hilariously tried to eliminate one another from the game while wearing the costumes.
The big winner? Mrs. Pelham took home the top prize of bragging rights!

Congratulations to Tecumseh High School junior Aiden Atkin for securing second place in the state of Michigan in the Trig-Star test!
Trig-Star, sponsored by the National Society of Professional Surveyors, is a competition that honors and rewards high school students who excel in mathematics, particularly Trigonometry, as well as their teachers. The program aims to demonstrate the practical applications of mathematics and increase awareness of the surveying profession.
At THS, students who have taken Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, or AP Calculus BC are eligible to participate in the Trig-Star test. Under the guidance of math teacher Will Ramsell, students prepare by studying topics such as the law of sines, the law of cosines, converting to DMS, finding arc length, and more.
THS has a strong track record in this competition, winning the state test for the past three years. This year, Aiden's impressive performance earned him second place.
Congratulations, Aiden!

This Memorial Day, we honor all who have died in service to the United States during peace and war. Your sacrifices will never be forgotten.
Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day began during the Civil War when citizens placed flowers on the graves of those who had fallen in battle. After World War I, the observance expanded to honor those who died in all U.S. wars, and the name was changed to Memorial Day.
Today, Memorial Day is marked by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. It is also observed in religious services, parades, and speeches nationwide.
