With a bond proposal being placed on the May 3rd ballot, Tecumseh Public Schools Board of Education and the Tecumseh City Council will come together for a presentation on the renewal. Other topics included on the agenda include programming at the Tecumseh Center for the Arts, City Parks and Recreation and the School Resource Officer.
The joint workshop will be held on Monday, January 31st at 6:30pm. The meeting will take place in the cafeteria of Tecumseh High School and will be Chaired by Mayor Jack Baker.
On hand for the meeting will be TMP Architecture and the members of the school district’s Building Futures Committee. Both groups will go into detail about the bond proposal and answer questions regarding the plan for capital improvements.
TMP Architecture has a history with Tecumseh Public Schools. The architecture firm designed Tecumseh High School and has won numerous awards for the work, including Outstanding Architecture and Design in Education Award. TMP Architecture realized the historical significance of commercial and residential buildings in the Tecumseh area and used it in its design of THS.
The TPS Building Futures Committee, consisting of stakeholders in the district, was formed in June of 2020. The committee worked with TMP Architecture on the plan for capital improvements for the district. The committee presented the plans to the Board of Education on November 8, 2021.
The proposal on the May ballot is asking for voters to renew the 7.2 mills they currently pay. It’s important to note that the renewal of this bond will NOT create a tax increase for voters.
The proposal would raise $75 million that will go towards numerous building projects and updates. The passing of this bond will help build a new elementary building, bringing TPS’s total building footprint to three. Other district updates include security upgrades at Tecumseh Middle School, updates to the Media Center at TMS, renovations to the Tecumseh Community Pool, an orchestra addition at Tecumseh High School, and much more.
Members of the community are encouraged to attend the workshop.
