Students at Tecumseh Public Schools will receive free meals for the 2021-2022 school year.
The United States Department of Agriculture has extended the National School Lunch Seamless Summer Meal Option.
The USDA program is typically available to students during the summer months and allows schools to serve free meals to all children. It is now extended through June 30, 2022.
TPS Food Service Director Laura Pleasant is stressing the importance that families still need to fill out a meal application for this program.
"We are asking that you please complete and submit it as soon as possible to ensure that additional funding for our school is available to meet the needs of our students," says Pleasant. "All information on the application submitted is confidential. Without your assistance in completing and returning the attached application, our school cannot maximize the use of available State and Federal funds."
Only one application is needed for each household. It is important to note that if families do not fill out an application, their child will still receive free meals.
Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. While no eligibility determination is required for students to receive free meals this school year, income eligibility requirements will likely resume in the 2022-2023 school year.
