The coronavirus pandemic is affecting people's mental health all across the country. Students at Tecumseh Public Schools are not immune to that either.
For our Compass Learning Center families, we have some mental health resources available. Compass counselor, Debbie Laney, is offering a Coping with COVID group for students in grades in 3-6. The curriculum for the group was developed by the University of Michigan 'TRAILS to Wellness' program. TRAILS stands for Transforming Research into Action to Improve the Lives of Students.
Some of the topics include emotions and relaxation, mindfulness, coping with worried thoughts, getting active and more.
Other groups virtually are stress, friendship, anger management, changing families and grief/loss.
If you are interested in any of these groups for your child, please email Mrs. Laney at dlaney@tps.k12.mi.us. Make sure you include your child's name, grade and group theme. The groups will be offered during your child's lunch time.
Also, the Child Mind Institute has numerous resources for parents and families. They have articles on sibling squabbles, asking kids for the third time to help with chores and trying to keep the peace.
