Thanks to recent state budget allocations, Tecumseh Public Schools students will once again have access to free breakfast and lunch for the upcoming school year.
The new state budget includes an additional $40 million dedicated to providing universally free meals, bringing the total funding for this program to $200 million. According to the governor’s office, this initiative will save families an estimated $850 per year in food expenses.
The 2023-2024 school year marked the first year of this state-funded universal free meals program. By March, 3,300 school buildings statewide were serving free meals through the initiative, a significant increase from the 1,600 schools that offered free meals using federal funds in the 2022-2023 school year.
“This initiative not only ensures that every child has access to nutritious meals, but it also alleviates a significant financial burden for our families,” said Vic Pratt, Communications Director for Tecumseh Public Schools. “We are thrilled to see this program's continuation and its positive impact on our community.”
While this is excellent news for our families, we want to emphasize the importance of completing the free and reduced meal application in your Infinite Campus portal. This application is vital for our district as it helps secure crucial funding from state and federal sources. Without sufficient applications, our district could miss out on necessary funding.
Regardless of your income, please take a moment to fill out the application by clicking ‘Meal Benefits’ in your Infinite Campus profile. Your participation is essential to maintaining and enhancing our school’s resources.
