Tecumseh Public Schools is thrilled to share that Jamie Fulton, principal of Tecumseh Acres Early Learning Center, has been chosen as the Region 3 honoree by the Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association (MEMSPA) and is now in the running for the 2024 MEMSPA Principal of the Year Award in Michigan!
This prestigious honor spotlights principals who bring exceptional leadership, dedication, and heart to their schools and communities. Jamie will represent Region 3—which includes Lenawee, Jackson, and Monroe Counties—at the MEMSPA Conferences on December 5 at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, where the Principal of the Year will be announced.
The MEMSPA Principal of the Year is reserved for principals who go above and beyond, embodying a commitment to students, teachers, and the community. It’s unclear who nominated Jamie for this award, but it’s a testament to her impact at Tecumseh Acres and the district. Jamie will also become Michigan’s candidate for the National Association of Elementary School Principals National Distinguished Principal Award if awarded the Principal of the Year.
Jamie, who has devoted 18 years to education—including the past decade with Tecumseh Public Schools and five years as a principal—shared her appreciation for the recognition and her passion for her role.
“I absolutely love being a principal, and I feel so blessed to be where I am today. I love the students, the teachers, the parents, and this community,” said Fulton. “I feel very honored to have the staff that I have. They go above and beyond for students every day, and the achievement shows that. The students are so kind and helpful, and every day is just a pure joy of being in the building.”
Jamie’s colleagues at Tecumseh Acres ELC couldn’t agree more. Lisa Shirk spoke warmly of Jamie’s dedication and presence at the school.
“What makes Jamie so amazing is that she leads with passion, and her dedication to students, staff, and families is outstanding. She makes everybody feel important and cared for,” said Shirk, MTSS and 504 Coordinator for TPS. “She (Jamie) is more than a principal; she’s hardworking and connects incredibly well with the students.”
Another colleague echoed Lisa’s sentiments, emphasizing Jamie’s unique ability to support and uplift her students.
“You’ve (Jamie) always had this thing about you, this heart thing with the children. If they were having a bad day, you always got them laughing and talking and back on schedule,” said Maria Burns, Tecumseh Acres ELC secretary. “Your dedication, compassion, strength, and wisdom inspire us all to reach new goals and work together. It is always about the children. And for that, I’m very thankful to be working with you.”
Congratulations to Jamie Fulton on this incredible recognition! All of Tecumseh Public Schools is cheering her on as she goes for Principal of the Year next month!
