Tecumseh Middle School students once again put their rakes to good use for the annual “Rake a Difference” day, a beloved tradition that’s been going strong for 25 years. This event brings students in grades 4 through 8 out of the classroom and into the community to lend a hand to those who may need help with seasonal yard work.
This year, dozens of students and dedicated TMS staff members raked leaves and filled countless bags at 40 homes, apartment buildings, and local businesses across Tecumseh. Students arrived at their assigned locations, some by foot and others by bus, eager to contribute to a clearer community while showing kindness to neighbors.
The Builders Club at Tecumseh Middle School—the largest student-led service organization—organized this year’s “Rake a Difference” event. Entirely run by students, the Builders Club provides these young leaders with opportunities to coordinate and participate in service projects like this one. Through hands-on efforts, they are learning the values of empathy, teamwork, and responsibility.
The Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh also played a vital role in supporting this project. Their partnership and commitment to the community have been essential to making this event a success year after year. Their collaboration with Tecumseh Middle School demonstrates the positive impact that community partnerships can bring, showing that when individuals work together, they can make a meaningful difference.
As “Rake a Difference” grows, it is a powerful example of what happens when students, staff, and community members unite around a common goal. Today’s activities showcase the enduring spirit of community service within Tecumseh Middle School and the positive change that occurs when young people step up to help.
Thank you to everyone who supported this incredible tradition, from the TMS staff who coordinated rake donations to the families and community members who provided tools and encouragement. We’re proud of our students’ dedication and eagerness to make a positive impact. This year’s “Rake a Difference” event reminds us of the importance of service and the power of community.
