Tecumseh High School was the scene of a first-ever assembly, not just in Michigan, but the entire country.
The 'Hometown Heroes Leadership Symposium' began right after school started on Friday, March 24. This event was originally planned for Friday, March 10, but a snow day ruined those plans.
The District partnered with the University of Michigan Athletic Department and the Michigan Army National Guard for the leadership symposium.
This isn’t just the first event in Michigan. This is the first of its kind, and Congress has taken notice. The assembly is part of the name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal between UM athletes and the National Guard. With this event being successful, it lays the groundwork for other states to hold similar assemblies.
The athletes, including Michigan Football and Michigan Track and Field members, national guardsmen, and service members, talked about leadership and being a leader. They also fielded questions from students.
After that, and perhaps most importantly, THS students met with the Michigan athletes and teamed up to assemble care packages for US troops overseas, giving them a little feeling of home.
Thank you to Michigan Athletics and the Michigan Army National Guard for including the district in this incredible first-of-its-kind event.
TPS's local media partners, Valiant Management Group, and media from the National Guard were on hand to cover the event.
