The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced shortened alternatives to its recommended quarantine for people who were exposed to someone with COVID-19.
The standard 14-day COVID-19 quarantines potentially can be shortened to 10 days or even seven. The agency is doing this to boost compliance with one of the most important tools for limiting spread of the virus.
The Lenawee County Health Department has released an infographic showing all the scenarios that come in to play when deciding how long someone needs to isolate/quarantine. If you have questions about the new guidance, please contact the county health department.
It's still important that parents keep TPS in the loop if their student has been identified as a close contact or test positive for COVID-19. This will help the district with contact tracing. Parents are asked to keep district leaders in the know, even though students are currently not attending classes in-person.
Key Points:
- The CDC still recommends a 14-day quarantine “as the best way to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19"
- However, the quarantine can end after 10 days if the person has not developed any symptoms and after just seven days if the asymptomatic person also tests negative for the virus, according to the CDC
