Tecumseh High School’s own Will Ramsell was celebrated as one of Lenawee County’s finest during the ninth annual Everyday Heroes Celebration Event on November 19 at Adrian Armory Events Center. Hosted by the Catherine Cobb Safe House, the event recognized 18 extraordinary individuals and groups who have demonstrated courage, kindness, and unselfish acts of heroism in 2023. Ramsell was one of two honorees in the Educator Hero category.
Ramsell, who serves as the math department chair at Tecumseh High School, has been a cornerstone of the district since 2011. He teaches a wide range of courses, including AP Pre Calculus, Pre-Calculus, and both AP Calculus AB and BC. Beyond the classroom, Ramsell is an active leader on the District Improvement Team and the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Committee.
For Ramsell, the night was both humbling and inspiring.
“It was truly a motivational moment to be sharing the stage with this group of remarkable individuals,” he said. “When you hear about all of the good that so many people are doing on a day-to-day basis in our country, and not just in the classroom, it motivates you to be the best version of yourself. I make a difference in the classroom, but so many others make a difference outside the classroom. Seeing them get the recognition they deserve was what made the night so special.”
Ramsell’s students and colleagues know him as a teacher who goes above and beyond. Whether helping students grasp challenging concepts in AP Calculus or staying late after school to offer support, Ramsell credits his students’ success as fueling his passion.
“Mr. Ramsell is a shining example of the dedication and heart that makes TPS such a special place,” said Vic Pratt, director of communications for the district. “He pours his energy into helping students succeed. We’re proud to see him recognized for his tremendous impact on our school community.”
The Everyday Heroes Celebration Event is a cherished annual tradition in Lenawee County. All proceeds from the event support the Catherine Cobb Safe House and its essential domestic and sexual violence programs, which include trauma-focused residential shelter and non-residential services.
Ramsell’s recognition highlights educators' vital role in shaping students' futures and the broader community. His commitment to excellence in teaching and his involvement in district initiatives reflect his passion for making a difference.
“Mr. Ramsell’s dedication shows that teaching isn’t just a job; it’s a commitment to making a lasting difference,” Pratt said. “His work in the classroom and beyond has a positive impact that resonates throughout our community.”
When he’s not teaching, Ramsell dedicates his time to leading THS’s competitive Equations team, which frequently earns top scores and wins tournaments. Equations is a strategic math game where students use cubes with numbers and operations to create equations that meet specific goals. The competition sharpens their math skills, promotes critical thinking, and fosters strategic problem-solving, skills Ramsell passionately helps his students develop.
Congratulations to Mr. Ramsell on this well-deserved Educator Hero award!
