Tecumseh Public Schools profoundly regrets to inform the community about the immediate closure of Tecumseh Community Pool. The Board of Education has decided to close the pool for the foreseeable future.
There are structural integrity concerns with the pool’s roof. The decision by the Board was made in the utmost interest of safety, and it follows a thorough inspection conducted by the engineering firm SME, which revealed some structural issues. While a primary concern is when winter arrives and the additional weight the roof could see with snow and ice, the Board felt it was best to close now.
The Tecumseh Community Pool has long been a valued resource for the community, offering a wide range of aquatic programs and recreational activities. However, the recent findings by SME necessitate urgent attention and repair to ensure the safety of all pool users and staff.
While the pool is closed, it will be inaccessible to the public while essential maintenance and evaluations are conducted. TPS is actively collaborating with experts in the field to expedite the necessary repairs, with the primary goal of restoring the facility to a safe and fully operational condition.
Tecumseh Public Schools understands the inconvenience this closure may cause for those who have enrolled in swim lessons or the Tigersharks program. To address this, we will be issuing refunds to all affected participants. Detailed information about the refund process will be communicated directly to program participants and their families.
The Athletics Department is currently in the process of rescheduling previously planned meets at Tecumseh Community Pool. Further details will be provided by the department in conjunction with the coaches.
We acknowledge the disappointment that this indefinite closure may bring to our community, and we want to reassure everyone that we are committed to addressing the structural concerns promptly and efficiently. The safety of our students, staff, and community members remains our top priority, and we will keep the community informed of any updates regarding the pool’s status.
